Auto industry’s latest green tech

Auto industry’s latest green technology making its way to Washington.

A luxury sports car that runs on electricity, a sedan that monitors tire pressure, and a computer system that adjusts an engine’s air flow — all designed by different companies, but all designed with the same two goals in mind:
Saving gas and helping the environment.
Introduced by Fisker, Nissan and Fiat, respectively, those innovations were among the 10 finalists for the 2013 Green Car Technology Award, which were presented on Thursday atthe Washington Auto Show. These aren’t lofty, futuristic concepts, either; each of the nominated technologies has been built into vehicles that have already hit the market.
Eight carmakers were represented, with Ford Motor Company placing three entries among the finalists. Tesla and Fisker make the only two electric vehicles on the list, while several larger automakers were recognized for bringing green technologies from their hybrid fleets to their conventional gas-powered cars.
